21.07.2010 Okahandja - Etosha (360 km)
Il a fait froid cette nuit ! Joëlle a fini la nuit dans la voiture avec sac de couchage et couverture de survie ! Il fait un petit 6 degrés à 5h du matin ! Une tasse de café ou thé bien chaud fait du bien ! A part les garçons, tout le monde a eu un peu froid ! Une pointe d'inquiétude se lit sur les visages ... va-t-il faire toujours aussi froid la nuit ?? Une fois le soleil à l'horizon, la température remonte et les soucis de dissipent ! Aujourd'hui nous allons à Etosha ! Arrivé à Okaukuejo, nous devons fonçer jusqu'à Halali pour arriver avant la fermeture du gate (ouverture et fermeture des gates au lever et coucher du soleil !), sinon gare à l'amende ! Nous devons donc aller d'un trait au camp, sans s'arrêter ! La question du jour: "Et si on voit des lions, qu'est-ce qu'on fait ?" "- on paie l'amende !".
Et bien sur nous tombons sur des lions et des éléphants au premier point d'eau ! Nous ne nous attardons pas, quelques photos et ça repart ! Joe donne le tempo au volant ..... Nicolas est derrière le nuage de poussière ! Nous entrons juste à temps dans le camp d'Halali, les portes se referment derrière nous ! Nickel !
Les bungalows du camp sont toujours aussi plaisants ! Ce soir poulet et riz au menu, accompagnés d'une bonne bouteille de rouge sud africain ! Santé !
Un Ratel ou Zorille du Cap (Honey Badger en anglais) tient lieu d'animal de compagnie, il est très attachant, respectivement il ne veut pas partir !
Carolyne s'est installée sur le canapé et a déja commencé sa nuit ! Il fait bon chaud sous les couettes moelleuses du bungalow, dans la tente, il fait un peu plus frais, mais rien à voire avec la nuit précédente !

What a chilly night ! Joëlle ended up sleeping in the car with her sleeping bag and a first aid blanket !! The temperature was around 6 degrees at 5am ! A hot cup of tea or coffee is heaven ! Except the boys everyone felt a bit cold that night ! You can read on our faces a little scepticism about the next nights ... will it be always as cold ?? As soon as the sun starts shining and warms us up, the worries dissapear. Today we are going to Etosha ! As we arrive in Okaukuejo, we are urged to go asap to Halali before dawn, if we would get there after the gate is closed we would get fined ! So we have to go straight to Halali, without stopping ! The question of the day is: "And if we see lions ?" - The answer: "we will pay the fine !".
And guess what ? At the first waterhold, lions and elephants ...... we stop for a short moment, get some pictures and drive off. Joe is at full speed, Nicolas is behind, in cloud of dust ! As we enter the camp, the gate closes behind us ! No fines today !
The bungalows are very nice ! Tonight's meal, chicken and rice with a nice bottle of south african red wine ! Cheers !
A Honey badger is our company tonight ! He likes us so much that he doesn't want to leave !!
Carolyne has started her night on the sofa ! It is nice and warm in the bungalow, in the tents it is a bit colder, but not as cold as the previous night !

22.07.2010 Etosha - game drive
Levé au petit matin (5h) départ pour une journée de drive dans le parc !
Petit déjeuner de rangers à la première place de pic nic venue .......
Oryx, Springbok, Impala (black faced), Kori Bustard, Lilac breasted roller, Crimson breasted shrike, African Hoppoe, Red hartebeest, brindled gnus (blue wildebeest), plain zebras, Steenbok, Lions .... mais où sont passé les éléphants ???? plus on se rapproche du camp, plus on sent leur présence ! (moins on les voit!) tant pis, ce sera pour demain !! Nous rentrons au camp, petit jus pour se détendre, et nous nous rendons à pied au point d'eau du camp ..... qui tient une réunion autour du point d'eau ? tous les éléphants du parc ! il y en a au moins une soixantaine qui se relayent ... coucher de soleil ... génial ! Un Rhino essaye de s'approcher de l'eau mais est régulièrement remis à sa place par plus grand que lui ! C'est ce qui s'appelle une belle fin de journée !!

We have a real bush breakfast in the first pic nic venue ... fantastic !
Oryx, Springbok, Impala (black faced), Kori Bustard, Lilac breasted roller, Crimson breasted shrike, African Hoppoe, Red hartebeest, brindled gnus (blue wildebeest), plain zebras, Steenbok, Lions ... but where are the elephants ??? we are heading back to the camp, we can almost smell their presence .... but no sight ! Ok, that will be for tomorrow ! After a chill out drink, let's walk to the waterhole view point of the camp ..... who is holding a meeting at the water hole ? Our elephants ! There are around 60 of them, coming, going, drinking, chasing a poor thirsty rhino !! And the sun is coming down .... great ! This is what can be called a nice way to end the day !

19.7-20.7.2010 Zurich - Okahandja

19.07.2010 / 20.07.2010 Zurich - Okahandja (71 km de route en voiture)
On décolle ! Nos amis Neuchâtelois sont arrivés à Zurich en fin d'après-midi. Tous les aventuriers se retrouvent à la gare, le train pour l'aéroport, l'enregistrement des bagages .... les bornes de check-in ne sont pas d'une simplicité folle à utiliser ..... 22h45 nous décollons. Après une nuit avec plus ou moins de sommeil, arrivée à OR Tambo Airport, Johannesburg. Vérification du billet pour le vol de Windhoek. Petit shopping dans la zone franche et enfin la dernière étape. Arrivée à Windhoek International Airport, nos premiers pas namibiens sont sur le tarmac !
Nous sommes attendus par nos loueurs de voiture, prenons donc possession de nos véhicules, un Nissan Double Cab 4x4 de Kea Campers et un Toyotal Land Cruiser flambant neuf de chez Bushlore.com, il est important de noter que les véhicules sont très propres à ce moment là ! (cela ne va pas durer !)
Nous allons faire quelques courses (5 caddies fin plein !) pour un ticket de caisse de 1,5 mètre de long et N$ 6'941.23 (CHF 1'041.-), mais il faut bien ça pour 8 personnes pendant 3 semaines !!! Et le problème n'est pas l'achat en soi, mais le rangement dans les voitures ! Il nous faudra quelques jours pour nous organiser ! L'aventure a commencé !
Le premier trajet n'est pas très long, 71 km jusqu'à Okahandja, nous montons les tentes pour la première fois au Ombo Restcamp, le premier repas est simple, Boerewors pain fromage. Pas de longue veillée pour les aventuriers fatigués du long voyage.

Let's fly ! Our friends from Neuchâtel arrived in Zurich in the late afternoon. All adventurers meet at the mainstation, train to the airport, check in .... the self-check in boots are not the easiest to use ... 22h45 we take off ! After a night flight we arrive at OR Tambo Airport, Johannesburg. Check the boarding card for the flight to Windhoek. Little shopping in the duty free area and at least the last part of the journey. Our first steps on namibian territory is on the International Windhoek Airport tarmac !
We get our cars, a Nissan Double Cab 4x4 from Kea Campers and a Toyota Land Cruiser (brand new !) from Bushlore.com, it is important to say that at that point, the vehicles are clean like new coins ! (that will not last long !)
The food shopping is quite amazing ! 5 full caddies, a cashier ticket about 1.5 meter long for a total of N$ 6'941.23 (CHF 1'041.-), but this is what is needed to feed 8 people during 3 weeks ! And the issue as such is not the buying, but the fitting of all that stuff in both cars ! We will need a few days to get organised ! The adventure definitely started !
The first drive is not very long, 71 km to Okahandja, Ombo Restcamp where we set up the tents for the first time, simple meal, Boerewors and bread. We are so tired that we do not stay long around the campfire !

19 Juillet 2010 / Namibia here we come !

Cette fois, ca y est ! Ce soir nous décollons, demain à 13h00 nous arrivons à Windhoek !! Les derniers 7 mois d'attente étaient terribles ! mais la patience est récompensée !
Nous serons le 21-22 juillet à Etosha, ensuite direction nord, Epupa Falls, Van Zyl's pass, Damaraland, Swakopmund 3-4 aout, là nous pourrons mettre quelques photos sur le site ......

This time is the one ! Tonight we are catching our plane, tomorrow at 1 pm we will be arriving in Windhoek !! The last 7 months were terrible for our patience !  
We will be on 21-22 July in Etosha, then heading north, Epupa Falls, Van Zyl's pass, Damaraland, Swakopmund on 3-4 August, there we should be able to show some pictures .....

9.8.2010 Ai-Ais - Mariental 476 km

On sent arriver la fin, la fin des vacances ! Ce matin un petit vent frais nous accompagne le long de la route (goudronnée !!) il fait même vraiement froid, on tient pas en t-shirt ! le vent vient de l'est (cela veut-il dire quelque chose ?). Que faire pour bien finnir les vacances ? 2 jours dans un joli lodge ! Mais quand on a pas réservé, cela peut réserver quelques surprises ! Bref, j'avais noté l'adresse d'une jolie petite réserve privée, Bagatelle, à une trentaine de kilomètres au nord de Mariental.
Petit arrêt café pitoresque dans la bonne petite ville de Keetmanshoop ! Arrêt plutôt court, le seul endroit ou "café, boulangerie, boucherie" (si si, ca existe en Namibie !) que nous trouvons pour nous arrêter devient très vite l'attraction du coin, nous sommes observé par un petit attrouppement derrière les vitrines ! Nous ne regarderons plus les singes aux zoo de la même manière !
Mariental a l'air plus .... grande, mais ne nous arrêtons pas pour autant ! Mes compagnons de voyages, ou du moins certains ne se doute de rien, respectivement ont aucunes idées d'où nous nous rendons ! Ma seule crainte c'est que tout soit booké, mais bon, étant donné qu'ils ont également des places de camping .... pas de soucis !! Nous y arrivons, très jolis jolis bungalows sur les dunes rouge ocre, très belle réception, nous sommes accueilli par l'oryx de la maison, puis par un des guides qui va regarder s'il y a de la place. Nous avons demandé si des bungalows étaient libres, car il fait toujours plutôt froid ! Et quelle joie, il y a 2 chanbres de libres ! On prend ! Mais que pour une nuit, c'est pas grave, demain on fera du camping, on a entendu dire que le front froid venu de l'est n'allait pas durer, donc il n'y a pas de soucis ! On nous fait faire le tour du propriétaire, le salon, le curio shop, la salle à manger, la piscine, les guépards, le jardin ..... LES GUEPARDS ? Et oui, c'est ça la surprise du chef, ils ont des guépards, pas franchement en liberté, il sont dans des enclos généreux, mais on peut les voir !!  Les chambres sont grandes et sympathiques, la douche ... chaude après quelques temps. Nous nous retrouvons tous à la bibliothèque, salon puis à la salle à manger, ce soir au menu: soupe de mais (excellente) puis buffet avec ragout de springbok, agneau, légumes et riz, c'est très bon ! Tous au lit tôt, demain nous allons visiter la réserve !

We feel the end of the trip ! This morning a little cold wind accompanied us along the road (tarred for once !) it was very cold actually, walking around in t-shirt was not on today's schedule. The wind is coming from the east (is this telling us something ?!). What to do to end our holidays on a high note ? 2 days in a nice lodge ! But when you didn't book anything in advance this can be adventurous !  I had an address in mind of a nice little private game reserve, Bagatelle, around 30 km northern of Mariental.
Little stop in a little town called Keetmanshoop ! Very short stop, the only place we found was a "coffee shop, bakery, butcher" (yes this kind of shops exists in Namibia !) which we found and we became very fast today's attraction for a lot of poeple watching through the windows ! We will not look at the monkeys the same way when visiting a zoo next time !
Mariental looks ... bigger, but this is not a sufficiant reason to stop ! My friends or at least some of them have absolutely no idea where we are going ! My only fear is that it's fully booked, but anyway as we can do camping and they have camping places .... no worries ! We are getting there, very nice bungalows on the red dunes, very nice main house, we are welcomed by a half domesticated oryx and then by a guide who is going to check the availability. We have asked if bungalows would be available as it is still very cold ! They have to rooms free ! Perfect we take them ! But only for one night as they are fully booked for the second night ! But it should be ok, we've heard that the cold front should go away by tomorrow .... so we can camp ! We are guided through the property, the lounge, bibliothek, curio shop, swimming pool, the cheetahs, the garden ... THE CHEETAHS ? Yes this is the chef's surprise ! they have cheetahs, not totally free but in quite big bomas. The rooms are quite big and comfortable, the shower with hot water ... We meet all again for the evening meal, a nice buffet with Sprinbok stew, lamleg vegies, rice ... very nice ! We are early in bed for a change, tomorrow we are going to discover the all reserve. 

May 2010 / Namibia preparation

La recette d'une expédition réussie ? Une bonne préparation ! Matérielle et physique !

Matérielle ? Nous testons les nouveaux produits de douche/champoing et autres lessives bio-dégradable et super concentrés, résultat pas terrible, pour avoir de la mousse il faut se laver les cheveux avec le produit lessive !!! Les lampes frontales sont prêtes, les piles de rechange avec ! Les chaussures de marche sont baptisées .......

The receipie for a successfull expedition ? A good preparation ! Material and physical !

Material ? We are testing new products, like shower/shampoo (bio of course !) and other washing things, very concentrated, the results are not as great as expected, if you want foam, then you better wash your hair with the clothing-washing product !! The headlamps are ready with batteries ... The walking shoes are more than ready....

Physique ? Si on peut appeler un cours de conduite off-road (de quat-quat !!) une préparation physique, alors oui, au moins 2 participantes sont fin prêtes !! Une journée dans la boue d'Ederswiler, rien de tel pour mettre de bonne humeur et s'amuser au volant d'une T..... Landcruiser comme des gamines !!! On a tout fait, des glissades, des montées impossibles, des descentes de tobogan, passer des trous d'eau, des ponts, des balances ..... bref, Van Zyl Pass, nous voila !!!!!!!!

Physical ? If we can call an offroad driving course a physical preparation ! At least two of the participants to NAMIBIA 2010 are fully ready !! A day in Ederswiler's slum ... nothing is better for the good mood and a lot of fun driving a T..o.a Landcruiser ! We did them all ! sliding, diving, going up, going down ..... Van Zyl Pass, here we come !!!!!

Namibia 2010 / Préparations

Et voila, c'est reparti pour un tour ! Depuis Novembre 2009 la fièvre des préparatifs ne nous a pas quitté ! Les billets d'avion sont déja arrivés !!! Il n'y a plus qu'à attendre jusqu'au 19 juillet 2010 ...... attendre ? non, il y a encore plein de choses à faire, arranger la location de la voiture, réfléchir à la liste des bagages ..... préparer l'itinéraire en gros ..... surtout rêver à ce voyage, car pratiquement tout est préparer !!
Les dates: du 19 juillet 2010 au 14 août 2010, Zurich - Joburg - Windhoek
Les voitures: une Toyota Hilux et un Defender, les deux équipé camping !
Les participants: 6 adultes, 2 enfants, plein d'entrain et super motivé

Here we go again for a round ! Since Novembre 2009 we are in the booking fever ! The plane tickets are already there ! We can only wait for the 19th July 2010 to come .... just waiting ? no, there are plenty of things to be arranged, the cars, luggage lists, itinary and a lot of dreaming .... almost everything are already prepared !

Benvenuti nel Veneto !

Bienvenue dans le Veneto, plus précisément à Trevise et Venise ! Petit week-end entre copine avec la coupe d'europe de rugby des moins de 18 ans comme prétexte ! Bien sur ! Ils ont besoin de support ces petits !

Donc diane debout samedi 27 Mars à 5h00 ! Départ à 6h00 ! Merci Sab pour les sandwichs ! Trajet Zurich - Gotthard comme une lettre à la poste, Gotthard Trevise ..... comme un francobolli à la poste ! 7heures de trajet, comme les viamich.. et autres l'annoncent ! Avec les pauses comprises ! Il faut beau en italie ! Pas super chaud en fin d'après-midi, le rugby se passe ....   défaite sans appel, je tairai le chiffre, c'est indécent ! Soirée à Trevise, au restaurant Toni del Spin     cuisine locale, très bon ... le Prosecco aussi et l'Amarone ....... Campagnola 2003 .... au menu: Bigoli aux anchoix, Tagliolini aux asperges, Gnocci a la zucca en primi, en plat: filet de boeuf, poisson au four, morue ..... miam tout ça !

Dimanche, andiamo a Venezia ! Même pour 5 heures, ca vaut la peine d'aller à Venise ! Nous avons pris le Vaporetto de la place de Rome à la place St-Marc, bu un capuccino sur la place (même si il coute la peau des f...., on ne vit qu'une fois, donc il faut en profiter !) Ensuite, retour tout en flanant à pied, dans les ruelles se faufilant entre les canaux, petit shopping, repas sur une terasse ........ gelatti ........ elle est pas belle la vie ?

Ensuite vous retournez à la maison et commencer la semaine avec plein d'images fabuleuses en tête ....

Welcome in Veneto, more precisely in Treviso and Venice ! Short girl week-end using the european -18 rugby cup as an excuse, and it works ! Of course, they need support !
Wake up time 5 am on saturday morning ! We left Zurich at 6am, thanks Sab for the Sandwiches ! From Zurich to Gotthard tunnel, then down to Treviso, it took us 7 hours, as they say in all the viamichelin and sites like these, 6 hours + 1 hour for breaks. The weather is beautifull ! of course, we are in Italy ! The afternoon watching rugby is a bit chilly ! the result as well, I want talk about it ! The evening in Trevise is very nice, we are have a wonderfull diner at the Trattoria Toni del Spin, regional dishes, served in a very simple manner as it should ! the wines .. Prosecco is dry and fruty, the Amarone Campagnola 2003 is just .... like an Amarone should be ! We had: Bigoli with anchovy sauce, Tagliolini with aspargus, Gnocci made with pumpkin ... and then, Beef filet, fish cooked in the oven and Bacala (salted/dry fish, well not dry anymore ...) just very good !
On sunday we are going to Venice, if you have only 5 hours to spend in Venice, you should still go, even if you have very little time, you can spend it in a wonderfull manner in Venice ! We took the Vaporetto from the Piazalle Roma to the Piazza St-Marco, had a capuccino on the place (even if this will be you expensiest coffee ever, zust do it ! we only live once ! Then you walk back between the buildings, crossing water everywhere ..... Do some shopping, have a nice meal on a terrasse, a gelato .... isn't life beautifull ?
Then you go back home, and start the week with a lot of beautifull pictures in your head !
